Band Camp
Band camp begins next Monday! I know that some of you might be anxious about this especially if it’s your first year. Ask any veteran member if they felt the same way when they were where you are now. You can also ask them all did they make the right decision by coming and showing up, and putting in the effort. I guarantee you every single one of our veterans, and our band is filled with veterans (we only had ONE player not return that participated last year) will tell you the same thing — a resounding YES!!!

New Staff Member
Please join me and welcoming Ms. Julia Simoneau to our staff. She will be a student teacher at BHS this fall and is very excited to be joining the Bunnell Band staff. She is originally from a small town in Massachusetts, Bedford, where she graduated in 2019. She has played her trumpet since roughly 2010, playing in concert band, then joining marching band in 2014 where she eventually served as drum major for her last two years of high school. She continued this passion to Sacred Heart University where she served as section leader for three years until she graduated this past spring (May 2023). She has loved music for her entire life and cannot wait to continue to spread one of her passions this fall with the Bunnell Band students as she pursues her masters in secondary education at Sacred Heart. She hopes everyone has a great rest of the summer and looks forward to meeting everyone soon.

A Slight Change in Location
We can NOT use any of the hallways in the “G” Wing at BHS during camp. We CAN use the Band Room and G-2, but we can ONLY go in through the outer door to the Band Room. We CAN use the Aux Gym
On Monday, Color Guard will put the old floor covering down in the aux gym.
The PIT will move all of their equipment from the dungeon to the Aux Gym
Full Band Rehearsals will take place in the aux gym.
Sectionals will take place outside.
Restrooms will be available in the locker rooms, through the back door to the aux gym.

Payments
All members are required to have a total of $150 in fund raising turned in by the first day of camp.
No worries — if you didn’t complete that yet, we can give you extra time.

We need to pay the staff & design team, as well as order props & uniforms. It’s imperative that ALL members stick to the fund raising schedule. If you can’t make the full amount, then make a smaller payment.
Pick up Time from Camp
I will respect your time and try to dismiss all students on time. Please arrive no later than 3:45p to pick up your child from camp!
Band Camp Picnic — Aug 25 at 5p
We will perform the show for the first time for all parents, families, friends & alumni who attend, weather permitting. This is a mandatory first performance for all students.
4:45p — Students report BHS Band Room, parents bring lawn chairs/blankets and set up on the hill on the side field
5:00p — Warm up
5:45p — perform
6:15p — dinner

Band Camp Schedule— Aug 21–25
Begins August 21. Monday through Friday (Friday is an option that we have NEVER needed!) — 6:45am — 3:45pm.
There will be a Family picnic on Thursday evening around 5pm. (see above)
Sports Tryouts
Students may be excused for Sports Tryouts. 100% on Friday, but we ask you to split the time, should you have a tryout on Thursday, or any other day.
Please inform your coach that you will also have to attend our first performance at 5p on Thursday evening.

Don’t worry if you are missing anything, or if you don’t have everything memorized — we will make sure everyone is complete on Monday at camp.
A typical day at Band Camp would look like this:
6:45am — report to the side door of the school where the band room is.
7:00am — section leader/staff/officer meetings.
7:15am — full band meeting
7:20am — stretching/warm ups/basic marching on the field, percussion on their own.
8:00am — Start drill sets. Goal — learn one song each day. Water breaks along the way.
12pm — lunch
12:30pm — Sectionals.
1:15pm — Full music ensemble.
2:00pm — drill on the field. This is where you put the music into the drill sets you learned that day.
3:45pm — clean up/meetings.
4:00pm — dismissed.
Students should make every effort to show up to camp with their music memorized. If you are a first year member and having trouble memorizing — DO NOT WORRY — we will help you at camp. This is the time of the year when, typically, students get anxious about starting HS. PLEASE, make an effort and attend the camp — if you are still hesitant at the end of camp, we will work something out — BUT please do not drop band at this point! Every member who receives this email will have a spot and is needed!

2:00pm — simulacro en el campo. Aquí es donde pones la música en los conjuntos de ejercicios que aprendiste ese día.
3:45 pm — limpieza/reuniones.
4:00 pm — despedido.
Los estudiantes deben hacer todo lo posible para llegar al campamento con su música memorizada. Si eres miembro de primer año y tienes problemas para memorizar — NO TE PREOCUPES — te ayudaremos en el campamento. Esta es la época del año en que, por lo general, los estudiantes se ponen ansiosos por comenzar la preparatoria. POR FAVOR, haga un esfuerzo y asista al campamento — si aún tiene dudas al final del campamento, solucionaremos algo — PERO, ¡no abandone la banda en este punto! ¡Cada miembro que reciba este correo electrónico tendrá un lugar y es necesario!
